The city of Mobile in Alabama wanted to create their own version of Time Square’s New Year’s event to commemorate the famous American dessert, the Moon Pie, for locals and tourists alike. MHS was contacted by the Maryland-based contractor that was awarded the rebuild project.
They needed experts that could design a hoisting system that would easily handle the drop of a 12 FT tall, 350 lb. ‘cookie’ down 317 ft. without the risk of mechanical failure onto the gathered crowds below.
Our team of expert engineers and fabricators designed and manufactured a ‘ball drop’ system that has been working flawlessly for over 10 years on one of the tallest buildings in Mobile, Alabama. The system consists of a monorail hoist constructed under a mezzanine, which hangs off the side of the RSA building.
The MHS install team accomplished an exciting feat, installing the 23,000 lb. system atop a 40 story building in mid-December, just in time for that year’s New Year Event.
